OUR HISTORY
In the grove of many Sweet Gum trees located in Caswell County, North Carolina on November 30, 1875, a group of dedicated Christians assembled to begin plans for a church. The church building was completed in 1883. The church was named after its location, Sweet Gum Level and later changed to Sweet Gum Grove. The original church was destroyed by fire in 1891. An old, no longer used church was to continue the Sweet Gum Grove Church's legacy. During the years, our forefathers and mothers have made many changes and renovations and with God's blessings, we have our great church today.

Pastor Paul Thompson

Biography
Rev. Paul Gabriel Thompson Sr. is a second-generation Pastor, who has a heart for God’s people and is one who God has raised up to advance the Kingdom of God. He is known to many as Pastor Paul because he desires to serves God’s people with humility.
Pastor Paul knew from an early age that he was called to preach, but initially didn’t want to answer his calling. However, eventually he found himself needing the Lord and he gave his life to Christ. He started out serving the Lord as a Sunday School Teacher and a volunteer Chaplain at Brighten Gardens Living Facility in Raleigh, NC in 2011.
He was Licensed to Preach in June 2013 at his home church, Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist church in Henderson, NC, where he served as an Associate Minister for 5 years
under his father, Pastor Charles Thompson Sr. Pastor.
Paul Thompson was Ordained by the United Shiloh Missionary Baptist Association in Dec. 2015, and Pastor Thompson went through seminary training at St. Augustine’s University in Raleigh, NC.
Pastor Paul was first called to serve as the Senior Pastor of First Ledge Rock MBC in Durham, NC in March of 2018 and in October 2021, he was favored to become the Senior Pastor of Sweet Gum Grove Missionary Baptist Church, where he currently serves along with his beautiful wife, First Lady Charlene Thompson.
Above all, he is a proud Husband and Father of 3 gifts from God; Cheyenne Janae, Gabriella Nicole, and Paul Gabriel Jr. His heart’s desire is to remain faithful to the work and ministry that God has called him to do and to make a Godly impact in the lives of people and his community.

🎓 Youth Ministry Announcement All youth are asked to submit their EOG scores by June 30th. Recognition and rewards will be presented on the first Sunday in July (July 5th).
🌹 Special Recognition Service Join us on Sunday, June 14th at 10:00 AM for our Women in Red Program. During this service, we will also recognize our 2026 Graduates & celebrate the recipients of the Sweet Gum Scholarship & the H.B. Brown Scholarship.

"It's that time again!! Please join us on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, June 15th, 16th & 17th for our 2026 Joint Vacation Bible School. We are joining with Burton Chapel Baptist Church and Reverend Maurice W. Boswell and we are expecting 3 days of fun-packed activities & fellowship. Our theme this year is "Glow & Flow - The Living Circuit!" Refreshments will be served each night, 5:30 - 6:25, session beginning at 6:30, & dismissal time is 8:15. We need teachers, teacher's assistants, a food team and a recording secretary to record and report the attendance for each night. We are looking for your talent! Please contact Minister Thierry at (839) 223-3755. There are forms available for the parents who wish to sign-up a child for the session and to also sign them up for van transportation, if they need it. There is still time to sign up as a volunteer or a student. Please find sheets on the table as you enter the sanctuary.
The Women's Ministry announce their 2026 Women in Red Program at Sweet Gum Grove Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, June 14th during Worship Service at 10:00 AM. We are asking everyone to wear red as we come together for a powerful and uplifting worship experience. A special guest speaker will be joining us for the occasion with a message sure to inspire and encourage hearts. Youth Ministry
It is our goal to welcome children into Christian fellowship and equip them to develop a deeper relationship with Christ through singing and learning church protocol.
Christian Education Ministry
As a ministry we come together to foster spiritual growth and development of individuals within our church. We aim to provide resources, guidance, and opportunities for a deeper connection with God and a better understanding of His Word.
Usher Board Ministry
The Ushers' Ministry seeks to be a doorkeeper in the House of God, receive visitors and members in a Christ-like fashion, to provide comfort and support to the worshippers, to ensure that worship is carried out respectfully and in order, and to perform ushering duties in a cheerful manner.
Let's Talk Ministry
The Mission of the SGGMBC Let’s Talk Ministry is to challenge youth to impact the world with purpose through faith, knowledge, love and compassion.
Transportation Ministry
Our Transportation Ministry offers free van service to people desiring transportation to attend Church services. For a ride to our Sunday Service contact us by phone anytime on Saturday before 7pm.
